Whenever I write down a recipe I find, I don't always write down where I got it. I'll do my best to give credit where it is due.

Kentucky Biscuits

2 C Flour
2 1/2 t Baking Powder
1/2 t Baking Soda
Dash of Salt
1 T Sugar
1/2 C Butter, softened
3/4 C Buttermilk (or plain yogurt)

Preheat oven to 400 F

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl then cut in the butter with a pastry cutter until crumbly. Mix in the buttermilk. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for 2 minutes. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet and roll into a 6x6 square (about) then cut into 12 sections. Do not separate.

Bake for 15 minutes. Separate into biscuits and serve hot.

When I'm feeling especially naughty - Garlic Cheese Biscuits...

Add 1/2 C of Cheddar cheese before kneading. Then once it's rolled out and before you cut into sections pour this mixture over the top: a half a stick of butter, 1/2 t. garlic powder, and 1 t oregano.
